Default Engine slid forward!

So the other day I noticed my motor and Trans mounts were wasted. I decided to replace the mounts with daystar mounts. I chose to do the transmission mount first, that's when I noticed the bolts sit about a 1/4" to far back to line up with the holes in the crossmember. That's when I checked the motor mounts and realized the engine is already as far forward as she'll go.

So it appears my spacing between the motor mount and Trans mount is too short to fit the mounts on the engine and motor. Im stumped!!!!!! I'm trying to do a head replacement at the same time so this is pretty lame. Also what's the best way to slide the motors back in place?

Here's a picture of my motor mount as it sits. As you can the engine has slid forward. However my new daystar tranny mount is sitting a 1/4" back and from sliding in the pre drilled holes of the crossmember. There's a big difference here, do you agree? Any thoughts on a solution?

Motor and trans mounts should be done at the same time. Replace the motor mounts and then that should fix the positioning of the trans mount too

Yeah that's not right. Gotta replace em or you'll have major issues, like your fan turning into a radiator mower. Do them one side at a time, and attach it to the engine first. Then wiggle the engine till it sits correctly. Same op on the other side. Then your tranny mount should line up, if it doesn't then try removing the crossmember, bolting the new mount to the transmission to the tranny, then mate the xmember to the tranny mount. Then you just need to muscle the xmember into place. I have, to this day, only seen one xj (late year 00 model) with intact stock motor mounts. Out of the 7 I have extensively looked at. So if you are reading this, go check. They may look fine, but put a jack under the oil pan and take the weight off of them and find out.

Okay so problem solved!! The trick was to bolt the crossmember to the daystar Trans mount before bolting the crossmember to the unibody. Now everything looks good, thanks for the input guys!!

How is your trans mount working? I put mine in a couple days ago and it feels and drives great with the Energy Suspension motor mounts. The only problem I've had is keeping it in 4-low.

Have you had this problem?

A little late with this reply, but you probably could have pried it back with a crowbar.
