I was helping a buddy install urethane bushings (Energy Suspension) on his LCAs today ('91 XJ 4.0L AW4 NP242 D30/35) and the instructions showed the installation of a urethane thrust washer (included in the kit) on the outside of the bushing. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how that would work, the bushing alone takes some effort to push into the perch and I can't figure out how that big ring of urethane would ever fit in there. Any advice or application specific photos would be greatly appreciated.

They bushings will still work there way out of the shell if you don't use that washer. The original rubber bushings were fused in, the poly ones are just pressed in and it doesn't take much force. The thrust washer takes the load instead of the press fit on the poly bushing.

Thanks for the video, SuperRA. That, combined with the cryptic pictographs in the directions, was enough to figure it out. My buddy texted me today to let me know he got them in and everything back together. When I get pictures I'll post them here.
