Default ECM help!!!!

I own a 98 Jeep XJ 4.0L and need to know if I can just swap an old ECM with another old one that works better. I don't have the money to go buy a brand new ECM so my plan was to go to the junk yard or something and pick one out of an old 4.0 XJ. Is this possible....will it work.

You may want to diagnose this issue (whatever that may or may not be) a little more.
