Dynomax exhaust
So someone on here posted a link to summit racing, where dynomax will give you a 75$ rebate on certain catback qualifying exhaust systems. so i can basically get aftermarket exhaust for 25ish dollars depending on what i get. my questions are, one is it worth it? both performance wise and sound wise, and two, do i have to do any welding for install?
Any opinions, suggestions, and whatever!

Just buy it from Advance Auto Parts. The muffler by its self is ~$30 and all you need to do is cut off your cat back portion and re-attach it to this new muffler with a clamp. I think this is a better option b/c you get the chance to clock your cat back portion to miss the shackle.
As for sound, its the perfect tiny amount louder than stock. Nothing sounds worse than a loud *** Cherokee rolling through its automatic shifts... The only performance I saw was the absence of the rusty hole in my stock muffler... The gain, if any, won't be noticeable.

It doesn't have to be from Summit Racing. I got the super turbo cat-back from 4 Wheel Drive hardware and got the $75 rebate. I like the sound, don't really hear it from inside the jeep. Didn't notice much in the way of performance increase, but you probably won't see much increase from any cat-back system without other performance mods anyway. Is it a good deal? Absolutely. Is it pretty easy to bolt on? Yup. Do you have to weld it? Nope. The only real issue i had was that the tail pipe hung too low from the bottom of the bumper. I just trimmed the rear most hanger to tuck it up just under the bumper. Overall, i like it a lot. The tip is only about 2" from the bottom of the bumper, and from outside my jeep, it's got a nice growl to it.

Been screwed over before on mail in rebates. It's money I don't really have to spend but if I'm gonna get 75 back why not

Gotcha. Dynomax was surprisingly quick on sending out my rebate. $75 in the form of a prepaid visa card. I bought my exhaust in may and had my rebate in june.

If you NEED exhaust from the cat back, its a good deal. I THOUGHT that I could get away with just a muffler but found that my tailpipe and hangers were worse than I thought, so I ended up buying a tailpipe, clamps and fabbing a hanger. It cost me a lot more than the Dynomax would have.
If you wanna go cheap, you can get a muffler for $25-$30. Cheaper still is just eliminating your muffler with a section of 2-1/4" pipe. As long as your tailpipe exits the rear by the bumper, it won't be terribly loud.
If droning inside is a problem, make sure you exit straight out the back. A turndown causes the exhaust sound to drone into the passenger compartment.

That why, unless you need it, I would just do the muffler and retain your standard muffler-back portion; not having that section welded to the muffler really helps with those fine adjustments.

I bought an OEM type tailpipe (Walker) and found the turn down was also angled outward. Unfortunately, it hit the shackle when driving over bumps, and the noise was annoying. I cut it off and put an 18" straight section in place. The droning is GONE and I'm running a Magnaflow straight through, louvered core muffler. My wife even says its quieter inside than it was with the original muffler.
If you're gonna change the muffler, its 2-1/4" center inlet and 2-1/4" offset outlet. The length doesn't matter provided it isn't longer than the orignal which was ~25". You can make up for the difference (shorter muffler) with 2-1/4" straight exhaust pipe.
Yeah, you can make changes to the exhaust without spending a lot of $. Just be legal and keep the CAT and sensors in place.

A little off topic but still about the Dynomax system from summit. summit has two cat back systems, is it just me being dumb or are they the same thing?
