Default durango steering box

I have a 2001 cherokee with a worn out steering box. Are they rebuildable? I have also heard of using a box out of a durango. Any info out there?

Durango box is a direct swap, bolts up completely. I am doing this soon, as my XJ box leaks about a quart every couple days

Don't take your old box in when you pick up.the durango box if you do it at a parts store.

Wait a day and try to go at a different time.

Is the Dakota box the same? my box is pretty wonky and sounds of imminent failure.

I've got a free Dakota box if i want it thats why I ask.

Otherwise any other junk yard steering box upgrades?

From what I understand the XJ box is a variable ratio giving you a dead spot in the steering sometimes, whereas the durango is fixed ratio and makes it easier to turn bigger meats, someone correct me here.

I wanna say a 98 Durango is the one you want. And a Dakota of the same year SHOULD work if I'm remembering correctly.

Search, though, its been covered.

Doesn't it have to be from a V8 durango ?
And it bolts up to renix xjs too right?

99 Durango with the 5.2 V8. Dakota's used the same box as the XJ's and WJ's. This should be good for all XJ's with the 4.0, including renix's, as the steering box bolts in the same.

'98 and '99 Durangos with the 5.2L or the 5.9L's have the box you want. '00 and newer have rack and pinion. Being that the Daks and Durangos are the exact same from the A pillar foward,, the Dak box SHOULD be the same as well.
