drivetrain modification
i have a (mostly) stock 98 XJ and am looking to lift it around 5-6" and run on 35" tires. my question is what kind of modifications do i need to make to prevent damaging the drivetrain?

There is a lot more to it then just the drivetrain at 5-6". Here is a good place to start.

Not sure what you mean by "damaging the drivetrain" but you'll want gears. I ran 4.56 gears with 35s on my 99XJ and that worked well. Some run 4.88s depending on driving style.
You'll want to look at a Slip Yolk Eliminator as well (SYE) since you're going above 4.5 inches.
Good luck and have fun!
