Default Driveline Vibration Thread

Okay, so i read all the time tht some cherokees are different and some need sye's at 3 inchs and others don't need them till 6. Well, i think its time we post specs of everyone's setup from lift to trans and transfercase to axles and driveshafts and such. This might help some of us when making the lift decisions in the future!

1996 Cherokee Country
4.0
4 speed auto
Np231
Stock driveshaft
Two inch coil spacer and shackle lift

Anyone who cares to join could help alot of people (like myself) alot too!

That comment, not beneficial to this thread. Once you come to my house and drive my Jeep, then you can make accusations about my knowledge and what my jeep does and does not do. To respond to your comment without cluttering this thread, I know what driveline vibrations are, I have built two jeeps from stock and have experienced what driveline vibrations are like. My 99 Cherokee Sport with NP242 experienced little to no DL vibration when i upped it to 6.5". After the lift it experienced a little vibration from 35-45 MPH that i didnt experience when it was stock, hence the little to now vibrations statement. I also build a 95 with a NP232 and it had horrible vibrations when we upped it to 5.5. I have no idea why, the second we did a SYE kit all was calm again. Cant explain it, just the way it is.

Lets stay on topic instead of questioning everyones response, not to be rude or anything.

T-case and rear axle have alot to do with it. The C8.25 has a longer pinion sticking out of the front than a D35. The NP242 also had more rear output shaft unsupported than NP231. Shorter DS should mean more net change in driveline angle with lift. That is what my toiling has taught me anyway...

As was my response. Lets just leave it alone.

But seriously minimal vibrations, only from 35 to 45, wish you could come drive it to see. Dont ask me how it is, it just is. That jeep was totaled and i have a new jeep so will let you know how this one turns out.

that's some real BRO love going on up above

'00 XJ Sport
AW-4 & NV231 combo
2" BB
LP D30/8.25
2.5' shim
3 washer drop
still have very slight vibes around 45mph - less noticeable with 31" MTR vs. 235 Duratracs - more tire to soak up the vibrations?

I WILL SYE when I go up to 5" total later this summer, I know I won't be able to take more vibes and ignore my Ujoints and Tcase bearings.
