Im using the GC front shaft in mine. Its just barely long enough but I have a manual. If you have an auto its plenty long enough THey are 32 inches at running length

I have a hack and tap and at 4.5 I had to have a drive shaft on a manual 94 Cherokee... Idk y but it was shorter than a 2000 Cherokee auto that I have I bought thinking it would fit..

Chances are you grabbed the front shaft from the manual and tried to use it in the rear of a auto. At least thats what I got from what you wrote. The front shaft from a manual will always be shorter because manual trannies are shorter then a auto tranny. You would need a shaft from an auto. The shaft from an auto is like 2 inches longer I believe. You can also get a front shaft from a CJ and have it cut down to fit in the rear if you cant afford a tom woods like me! lol. I got mine out of a cj7, not sure if one out of a cj5 would need to be cut down or not..
