So I have a 98 xj and want to take the doors off. But there are 20+ wires in each boot and I don't want to have to remove kick panels etc. If I bought some of these and had 3 on each door it should work correct? I have power everything and would like to keep it that way. And I've seen the grand cherokee thing and don't want to go that route.

The problem you will have with those is their bulk. They wont fit well inside the body post where the would have to be. You may get lucky and be able to jamb them in there but you risk breaking a wire doing so. I pop my doors off all the time and it only takes me 10 minutes to do both side including removing the kick pannels but Im always looking for a better alternative to the harness issue. Maybe your idea will work, hard to say till you try it!

Yeah I worry about that too. The thing is that I'm in nc and there tends to be an afternoon thunderstorm about 3 times a week in the summer so I'd like to be able to put them on and off quickly. Might be worth a little more thought before I jump in.

Im using disconnects I scavenged from old a/c units and I have a bunch of left over disconnects if you want them. They work quite well IMO

i spent the money and used trailer hitch quick disconnects, unfortunately they are bulky but i might cut a bigger hole in the body side and tuck them in the car, problem is that the fuse box is in the way on my passenger side

for now the all are squished together in the door crack getting wet and dirty but they still work... I kinda regret taking my doors off and doing the wiring

If I've got more than six circuits to break, I'll start looking at Amphenols (metal shell) or CPCs (Circular Plastic Connectors - plastic version of Amphenols) to do the job using as few connectors as possible. I think you can get Amphenols/CPCs up to 30-odd circuits per housing, sometimes even with "power feed" connections for high-current (up to 30A or so) stuff.

Check Allied Electronics - I believe they carry a full line of each for a reasonable price.

radioshack has 12 pin connectors that are fairly small. should be able to fit 2 of them in there.

I got lucky with manual everything as all I had was speaker wires and I just relocated my speakers so now I don't have any wires.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna start by just disconnecting the wires at the kick panels and if that is as annoying as I think it is then I will figure something out. Definitely a good starting point thanks for all the suggestions!

let us know how easy getting the passenger side wires disco'd is for you/if you have any tips, I wasn't ever able to fit my hands into the kick panel enough to get the plugs undone...i can only take my drivers door off. good luck.

should look into radio wire harnesses.. they're usually fairly compact, and have tons of pins in them. you can get the factory ends from a junkyard, and the matching connector from a stereo install shop (unless you happen to find a car with aftermarket radio still in it at the junkyard, but good luck with that)

If you don't mind spending a little extra money, you could try canon plugs. They can be expensive but if you search ebay you can find some that are not too over priced. You could get one with about 30 pins and it isn't much larger in diameter than the wire harness.
