It seems that I can't find any thread or info about done light override switch. Sometimes I like to leave door open on my lunch breaks and I don't want the light to turn on when I do.
Is there a specific wire I can tap into or something?

I don't want to unplug it. I just want to put a switch so when I don't want the light to be turned on when doors r open, I ll just flip the switch, but able to turn it on for later during nighttime.

The dome light circuit has to be open for the light to turn off.
You should be able to splice into the wire at the door jamb switch and put a disconnect switch in line.
If you did that the switch would only work for the drivers door. If you wanted it to work for the passenger door you'd have to run those wires to the same switch on the passenger side as well.
Turn the switch ON and the light would work with the door. Turn the switch OFF and it wouldn't work at all.

On the gmc savana work vans, there's single override switch for all doors, from the factory.
Any chance I can set up the switch the same way.

Find the point where both door jamb switches meet and put a cut off switch inline.
I'd have to look at wiring diagrams to be any more detailed than that.
Dont know if this will help you or not.
Pull the fuse and use a couple male crimp on connectors to tap into that power, and run a pair of wires (preferably one with an inline fuse) to a on-off switch.
Basically you just cut the power to the lights.
If you want a switch to turn them on wile the doors are shut as i did, tap into the ground going to one off the door jam switches, run it through an on-off switch and then to a good ground.
Hope this helps!

Yes but that doesn't mean you can turn them off.

This was an issue that drove me nuts too. Please see the end of this thread, or the attached pictures. First picture is PDC near passenger side right kick panel - you've got to take the cover all the way off to get to the connection, which should be the same on 1997-2001, not sure about previous models. This yellow 20ga wire is the ground from dome lamp to all 4 door switches - splice a switch into this to decide whether to use the door switches or not. Enjoy!

you could remove the switches in the door jambs then the lights will only come on when you click on the dome light, or you could tap into the ground wire in the dome light and install a toggle switch in the light itself
