I have a 98 xj it is lifted 4.5 inches on 33 inch bfg km2 tires and it has a bunch of stuff done to it like full exhaust, 99+ intake, neon injectors, airaid intake, but here's my question, does anyone else have a problem with it ******* down and kicking down a gear, like out of overdrive even on flat ground??? I usually keep it in 3 just so it stops kicking out of overdrive and back in it...It has an aw4 with 3.73 gears btw

I also was kind of wondering if it was because i have so much rotating weight because i have 10 inch wide cragers also...which arent the lightest wheel on the planet, but my friend had a pretty much identical setup and his seemed a lot less doggy because he had aluminum american racing wheels on his jeep...im not sure if this would really make a big difference though

Any additinal rotating mass will slow you down. Every 10lbs of rotating mass is like an extra 100lbs to the vehicle (correct me if im wrong here guys). I have 3.55's and 33-12.5's on stock steel xj rims (yuk!) And pretty much just leave it in 3rd all day unless im on the expressway. Drives alot better.

it seems like 10 pounds of rotating weight would equal out to more than that to me at least...but yeah mine almost never sees overdrive...going down hills is the only time i ever put it in overdrive it seems like...but since i am not the only one with this problem i guess its safe in assuming that i shouldnt be worried about anything atleast haha

the TC locks in 3rd too.
3.73s is not enough gear for 33s. you want 456s or 488s. my 93 had every bolt on engine mod and was running 33x10.5s w/456s and an aw4. rear end was locked and i could pull a u turn with my foot on the ground and lay bacon strips. thing was a rocketship. i believe my trail weight was a hair under 3800lbs.. obv it wouldnt leave rubber fully loaded.

Haha awesome, I'm very glad I am not the only one haha and I've heard a few people that said they would almost want more gear then a 4.56 also...I can throw mine around if its wet and on a very smooth road lol
lol I knew all 4.0s made was torque, never knew the horsepower band was that tragic though. Stock gears and 33s here too, I can't use overdrive at all unless I'm going downhill at least 60mph. Would regear but that's too much money and effort to put into stock axles...
