dodge dana 60
So i just got a dana44 hp under my xj but found a dana 60 out of a 94 ram 2500 and was wondering if anybody knew much about these and if my radius arm would mount up to them and if its a good 60 cause they are the cheapest ones i can find around. Btw i have rustys long arm/radius arms

Your radius arm wont mount up to anything other than a jeep dana30 or rubicon 44.
I dont remember when dodge went to drivers drop. But early ones are passenger side drop and later drivers drop models have the lame vacuum disconnect. Neither are too desirable for an xj, but anything can be made to work.

i wonder if he is talking about the first gen cummins truck stuff 89-92 i believe they ran a 60 with hubs and not unit bearing. easy way to tell is they had leafs up front. in anycase i would stay clear i think you are limited to gear ratios with those axles . the early diesel stuff i believe they used what dana called a 61 and it was strong but limited for gear selection.
the 93 or 94 and up stuf did have as mentioned before vac disco and unit bearings. altho the unit bearings under an xj would last forever,we are half what the truck weighs and you could either get an upgraded shaft and replace the two piece. or weld the spiders and get a cable actuator.(kinda the hill billy way to do it ) but you would have a cheap ghetto style front selectable locker. if you decide to go this route milage and handling will be affected as you will always be pushing the one side of the axle.
i bought a cherokee set up in simular fashion but with a 30 it worked great off road but kinda blew chunks compared to on road characteristics of an open dif

This is a good! I've always wondered... My work truck has Dana 60s. It is a '99 2500 Ram 4x4. I picked up a Cherokee shell for a custom build (offroad only). So these axles are good to work with besides the mounting fab? Shafts, gearing, carriers all easy upgrades to find?
Thanks ahead!

there are alot of spare parts out there. but good is debatable depending who you talk to. everyone has opinions they are like buttholes. but they are way stronger than 30s
