Default Do I have a tow pack or not?

Hi there,

Was looking into rear diffs and LSD etc, and having a tow pack yes or no makes a difference regarding the use of oil.

Sorry for asking this, but how can I tell if I have this "tow pack" or not?
Second hand Jeep, looks pretty stock, has Chrysler 8.25 rear diff with Limited slip.

  1. You need a additive to the gear oil for the LS.
(Ignore the 1. ,don't know why it's there.)

no difference in oil for the rear diff you have weather it came on a cherokee with or without a towpackage. the limited slip means that you will need to put an additive in as well as the gear oil.

Thanks for the clarification.
Now, here in the shops (Oz) they dont sell seperate additives. I know the special LSD gear oil is an option that has it in there already, but I just drained and filled with 80W-90 brand new oil.
Now I know there is Lucas oil available , for both engine and transmission. Would that be useable? ( it states its great for transfer cases too).

Thanks in advance!

Actually according to my Mopar manual, it states "For trailer towing applications use a SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Lubricant in rear axle. Models equipped with Trac-Lok require an additive."

I know about the 75W-140 for the trailer towing. But see above, could I use the Lucas oil as the required ' additive' too?

This is just my humble opinion. I hope I do not open a huge, ugly, can of worms. If you are using a synthetic fluid, I would not use a non-synthetic additive. That is just my opinion though.
