Default Diy trailer hitch?

I just picked up my first xj and I really need a trailer hitch. Mine is a 98 and didnt come with one. I can weld and have a decent lincoln 180 mig with gas. Ive never made a trailer hitch before and really dont know what goes into itbut they look pretty simple. I DONT want to find out that its not as simple as it looks while hauling a camper down the road and it breaks off or wobbles out of control smashing into a million pieces though. Are there any trailer hitch DIYs or should I just go buy one? right now I have a stock bumper but was hoping to put some aftermarket or home made ones on later. Thanks guys

Cool, that's cheaper than I could build it. I looked up used ones on ebay and theyy looked like around 100 to 130 shipped for a used one.

I might have been looking in the wrong place I saw a few that were used at 70 but with shipping it would end up being 100 or more

thats the kind of thing you dont wana buy online and have to pay shipping on. it would definatly be cheaper to buy one at the junkyard then build one. or just go all out a build a rear bumper with a hitch in it.

I was thinking about that. Does anyone have or sell plans for a bumper like that online? The bumper part looks easy just some tubing and a few angle cuts. Im worried about mounting. The reciever correctly as far as connecting it to the bumper and making sure it will pull right

you can get a new one from Advance Auto for 95 or 100 plus tax with shipping. They have a Curt hitch, and a Reese hitch. price on curt is 129 and reese is 149.

enter coupon code BIG35 for the curt one, that will save you 35 bucks off 85 dollars.

Enter VISA if you go the reese hitch, it will take 50 off 150. You will have to find something to tip the price over 150. just get a maglite flashlight bulb or something dumb and cheap.

anything over 75 bucks gets you free ship.

i had to replace my factory one cause the receiver was pretty much welded in there. This Curt tucks better than the factory one, probably by an inch or more.

here is the curt I got from there.

There like 120-130 new on ebay. A trailer hitch was the first thing I did to my cherokee too.

I had to go to 2 junkyards to find one but finally picked one up for $50. I could have made one for $50 but its not worth it really. Now I can wait awhile to build a bumper
