Disc brake swap on rear axle
I am going to be starting my disc brake swap next week, but i wanted to make sure that i can use the calipers and backing plates from a 99-04 WJ? Am i correct in this, you just have to grind out the center?

Get KJ parts, they fit the 8.25 with no grinding. Grab the e-brake cables off of it too. They work without modification as well (One side will be a little long, just loop it). Only thing you'll need to buy are brake hoses. I did it to mine and love it. No mods to the Master cylinder or prop valve either. Either set up you'll want the backing plate bolts and get 10 Dana 30 wheel studs too to swap out too. The rotors are going to be thicker than your drums.

Sick, i will probably go the KJ route now. Unfortunately i have been unable to locate a KJ with discs at my fav. junkyard. Were these common, cus my moms KJ has drums in the rear

2002 Libertys had drum brakes. After that they went to disc. They are harder to find. I had to find someone through Craigslist who was parting one out and I had to pull the axle myself. These axles are pricey so you'll need to really shop around. If you do get an entire axle, try to salvage and then sell the brake hoses/lines to recoupe some money. Replacements are $400 from the dealer since it's a one piece set up. You can't separate them. Use brake hoses H380528. You can get them from Amazon.com or from Advance Auto.

Hogging out the centrebore on the backing plate is not a big deal and having to do so should not be a deterrent to getting ZJ brakes. Of course, it would be one less step if you did not have to do so but all you need is either a dremel or a pneumatic die grinder and a carbide burr or grinding stone to fit.
It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to grind out both.

Yah i know, but unfortunately my local yard has like 15 WJ's and no ZJ's or KJ's. Thanks for all the input from all of you guys.
