Default differential upgrades

hey guys I'm new to this forum but have had my jeep for a couple years now its a 93 XJ auto with tow package I6 i have a 4" lift and running 33" tires with stock difs and gears and I'm ready for a dif and gearing upgrade but i cant decide on what gears would be best 4.11 or 4.56 how ever i would like 4.27 but apparently they are not offered so I'm tickled with what gears to go with i do lots of city and lots of highway but i want something that's decent all around on and off the road.

I'm also really curious as to why upgrade the rear d35 dif but not the d30 front?

Okay, are you aware of how expensive gearing is? It isn't something you can just bolt it and go. Also you never want to gear only one axle. Don't waste money on the 35. Because they are the worst axle offered. Find a chrysler 8.25 rear axle out of a 97+ xj.

With an auto, you want 4.56 with your 33s. That's what I have and love it

Definitely 4.56. Depending on how you are planning to drive it the 35 may or may not be fine. If you are actually going to wheel it, than look for an 8.25 or XJ44.

I think the 8.25 is the same carrier, may be mistaken though, get the later model years for the 29 spline, the earliers have 27

If its a different carrier pm me I have all the 29 spline 8.25 gutz that had 4.88s you can have for the ride. I blew up the ring gear p.o.'s faulty install. I swapped in a 8.8 and never looked back

There is no carrier split for the 8.25 so you'd be fine.

Or if all you want is 4.10s its cheaper to buy 8.8 lsd and install kit and just weld it yourself then to regear.

the front needs a carrier rear does not on 8.25, and 8.25 is just as strong and is an easier bolt in for some, each his own

An 8.8 with 4.10s, lsd, disc brakes is around $150 install kit with truss is $200. Where are you gonna find a 8.25 and have it regeared for that and there almost all open with drums. As for strength I guess you've never had to two out side by side.

For towing with an auto and 33s I definitely agree that 4.56:1 is the way to go.

C8.25 carrier split is in the 2.something:1 range, so you don't need to worry about that. Disc brakes can be sourced from a ZJ Grand Cherokee (minor modifications you can do with a drill, just needs a larger hole to fit the axle tube) or KJ Liberty (direct swap but harder to find)

You cannot find an 8.8 for that around here unless you go to pick and pull, and good luck around here trying to find an LSD let alone a 4.10 one
