A little more frame work and height problems than I would want to get into.
BTW it's the diesel engine that connects to the generator. Also a lot of welders like Lincoln and Miller use a diesel engine to run the generator that supplies the electricity that you weld with. Miller even has one 4 cyl engine that runs on 3 cylinders and the 4th is used as an air compressor.
And all of those diesel engines are physically smaller than our 4.0 gas engine.
Maybe the smaller ones?
I worked for UPS for quite awhile. All I saw were 6 cylinders.

Love to do a Kubota but transmission may be a problem, what the hell I'll use the hydrostatic set up and all. Forward and reverse with that little pedal on the floor would be cool, a little slow on the road though. Did Isuzu ever make a 4 cyl. truck engine? I want something old and simple without hundreds of wires and garbage.

4bt's are awsome..have several. the 4b..non turbo is a great motor as well easy to find and really snappy as far as throttle response.
kubota 3cl are good..low on power..parts are a bit$$
Suprised no one metioned this..perkins makes a 4cyl..many models..inline injection to dist injection ..take your pick..they are small, light lots of power. we have about 80? of them at work in forklifts, the fit in the same amount of room as a mazda FE engine (FE series were used in the mazda 323/626 series?) and we run them all on bio deisel.
oh...and our 4b's are bolted to ford 3 speeds(c4) and are aircraft haulers..mind you they go through a double gear reduction to a spicer rear.
look around at used forklifts.

i will have to pulll some model #soff the engines and look them up....all of our set ups are in "self propeled" equipment. we have a seperate generator section that takes care of stationary equip. That being said..they all have some sort of trans..traditinal torque converters and drive shafts...i will look for some common 3-4 speeds. sorry...just dont have the info in front of me.
