My friend did it to his 92. Before we tackled that we did his duramax. I just don't feel like taking apart the dash yet.

I too am a cheapie and would prefer to just buy a bunch of 74 LED's from china.

EDIT:
Wedge base, like these?

I meant swap the actual base of the 74 for the neo wedge base of the stock bulb. If you get the smd type be very carful when bending the leds wires. The solder joint is very fragile. A pair of small slender needle nose works well. You also may have to enlarge the hole in the switch about a mm with a dremel, no big deal.

adding LEDs is easy to do. you can get 12v ones that do not require any type of resistor. look online for LED stores, you buy them hella cheap. I did a full LED install in my 2004 Scion xB. Had them in the cup holders, door handles, air vents, kick panels, coat hooks. Even had them on the bottom of my doors so when the doors opened, the LED lights would turn on and shine onto the ground. Looks badass at night. Cost about $30 in parts a day of your time. Just make sure you do your research before taking on the job to ensure you get the right parts, i.e. how bright you want the LEDs, what kind of light they put out/angle, etc. I personally recommend you get the LED clip holders if your using LED lights unless you plan on using LED strips. Either way very cheap and easy to do and it looks great at night. And I did have a dimmer switch connected to mine, so I could make them as bright or dim as I wanted. Look online, lots of DIY guides out there.

Assuming you have an 01 XJ, according to your name, you need five size 74 bulbs.

Add your vehicle info and or a signature so people can help you better.

Anybody have any issues with the bulbs burning out fast?

I went with https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...edge-base/227/

and it seems like every few months I have one of the failing. It frankly is getting quite annoying having to swap out the bulbs and I rather not have to do it again for awhile.

Let them know some are failing. They should replace them. I buy all my LEDs from them and never have issues. But they have good customer service.

My god, man...

These are all the lights most will do for 97-01

5-neowedge t5 for the gauge cluster
2-194s for the 4wd/tranny (must have a diameter less then 10mm
2-3 neowedge t4 for the defroster, rear wiper and fog light if applicable
2-neowedge t4 for hvac
5-(or however many overhead lights you have) 44mm festoons
2-1156 for the footwells
