whats up everyone? this is purely just a question, why doesnt anyone use these? I only ever read up to the 60's. I didnt even know they existed until i was looking at wikipedia at the dana series. at first i thought it was because maybe the pumpkins so big that no one got ground clearance or something... but then i started to see some of the builds with the 7 feet tall xjs LOL. so.. is there any reason why no one uses em or?

People do use them. But a 60 gives u strength and decent ground clearance.

theres no dana 70 or 80 fronts. as for the rear id say they are used almost neary as often as 60s. they are a little stronger in stock form. but a 60 can be made plenty strong for cheaper money. and you have a lighter axle with better ground clearance

It's a 10,000lb rated axle that is used in 1ton DRW diesel fords and some other heavy trucks. The center diff on mine (F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel) is about 14in high IIRC. You would have to be running HUGE tires to get any ground clearance.

Can it be done? Yes but they are massive overkill for a vehicle that weighs 3500lbs stock and can run an 8.8 or D60 and never break for the most part.

If you search Dana 70 you can find a 70 front but I couldn't find a 80 front.
As said, overkill.

There are a couple of Dana 70 fronts. Dodge had one back in the day and Chevy uses them in their medium duty trucks ie the Kodiak's it is about as strong as the D60HD that Ford uses in its F450 and up.

For the rear the D70 a lot of people use in vehicles other than XJ's I was choosing between a D70 and 10.25. The 10.25 offers more ground clearance, but doesn't have as good of a selection of parts. Personally if it was up to me I would look at a sterling 9.75" for an XJ good clearance and basically a Ford D60 rear.
