I hope it's a solid axle and not a TTB

I love when people log into the Jeep forum asking about Ford or Chevy parts.

Makes me laugh.

I want full width axles. My wifes parents have an 80s bronco with a 44 front and 9" rear.

I just gotta do the work.

Yes you can just buy a stub shaft. All you have to do is disassemble the outer, and get a measurement of the broken shaft. You should be able to clean off the pumpkin and find a BOM number on it... it is there.. you just have to look.

Once you get the measurement, and or measure broken shaft call up your favorite parts dealaer and order the part you need.

whats so special about the 44....esp the waggy 44? my D30 is already running the same size u joint as the D44....so its not the joint thats special.

what makes them so attractive? the steeper gears available or what?

If he has an axle under the rig.. swapping a narrower axle in its place for a broken stub shaft is like swapping out engines cause a Fuel injector is bad

80's FSB have a TTB front axle and unless you got mad Fab skills wont work on a XJ

I just gotta do the work.

The fact that it has 30 spline inner axle shafts.. the axles are physically stronger.. has lock out hubs. SO a d30 can run a d44 size u-joint it doesnt mean it has d44 strength

Up grade to a decent u-joint, and you will start breaking other parts in the front axle. BUy you some Spicer or Ctm joints and see what breaks then

That's fine. I'll find a different front end then.

The 9" will still work.

the lock out hubs would be awesome though.

ARe you installing the clips that come with them.. or full circle Clips. Most of the time you are not breaking the u-joint.. you spit a cap.. and thus break the u-joint.

If you upgrade to full circle kits on the spicers... and continue to break u-joints and shafts might be time to upgrade to some quality aftermarket parts.

Here are some pics of d30 shafts I broke with 760 u-joints.
