Dana 30 Central Axle Disconnect Cable Actuated
So, I installed a cable into the CAD shift fork on my Cherokee with the Dana 30, it then routes to the cab where I pull on it. Ya'll get the idea. But what I was wondering is if I could use some sort of electric actuator to pull on the cable at the CAD housing instead of me pulling on it? Ya know sorta like the OX locker electric actuator. But cheaper.
I was wondering if something like this would work?

Well until I break the D30 that's currently under it, I'm not going to worry about having CAD.

Is that actuator water proof? I can see it causing problems if not, an air cylinder might be more reliable in soggy conditions. They come in many different sizes and thread pitches, but oba would be required.

I just flipped the fork on my YJ. Now it's locked all the time just like a non CAD just not as strong. It's only got 31 on it and doesn't see anything more than a logging trail so it's been fine so far.

I just like that I have 2LO. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm just trying to make it better.

As for the actuator pictured being waterproof, probably not. But I could figure something out. As for that air cylinder thing that you're talking about, how might I find one/how would it work/is it cheap? Because I was looking at electric linear actuators, but they ain't cheap.

I personally haven't purchased any air actuators/ cylinders myself, but use and replace them on a daily basis at work. Pretty simple devices, they utilize one energy source vs a electronic driven and likely a gear reduced electric motor. One moving part with an air supply in to push the ram out and the same to retract. Some may have internal springs that retract the ram with out air. Amazon has a few selections of air cylinders, but grainger, fastnall, and mc master carr carry many more varieties. On top of the air cylider you will need a pneumatic switch that sends air to the in and out ports on the cylinder. It's plausible and seems like a fun project, and I've needed 2lo once... But only once (towing gravel up a very steep hill). Personally I'd swap axles for non cad, but would like to see it done by someone.
Here is a link to a cylider that maybe somewhat close to what you need, the rest is up to you.
