No need for a kit. Search the tech articles on this forum for an easy fix. Takes less than 1/2 hour. i've done 3 of them.

This is the route some people take and it works good but that involves pulling both sides of the axle apart. Brakes, wheel bearings, axle shafts. And then pulling the carrier to install the seal that almost requires a special tool of some sort.

It seems to me it would be as much work as just swapping the whole assembly IMHO.

Page 3 in the technical write-up section for the XJs on Cherokee Forum will give you the simple fix.

Thank you sir! Exactly what I needed and best part, it's free! Better than $190-220 for the Posi-Lok system...

No, haven't began working on it... Where I live, I have no place to work and no tools. When I visit the folks, I will probably do this though. I will try to get pictures as a do it and post the successes and/or failures as I go along. Anything to help fellow CAD Jeepers.

Thank you! I knew I had seen it on here.

And for those who may not know where that is, here is the direct link...

If your still curious about the one-piece conversion, I have done it.
Check my build thread.

I will probably end up doing the conversion eventually. But until then, the "temp fix" is really nice.

If I do a one-piece conversion or permanently engage my disco-d30, will that affect how a locker works in it? I've been told that if I had a one-piece front axle with a locker, that it would pavement hop when trying to turn, but if I could disconnect it like OEM, then it wouldn't make a difference.

People around here seem to get away with it. I don't like the idea personally. I would run a tru trac myself. Idk it would be nice to run a locker.... why not get locking hubs..... there has to be something you can steal em off of...

I've thought about locking hubs, but I would have no idea how to install them. I've been thinking about doing a homebrew cable engage system and a lunchbox locker setup. I've heard hubs can get pricey, especially compared to a LBL. But I'm open to suggestions lol.

quick threadjack... but let me get this straight.. so because the tcase is not engaged, having the two axle shafts locked together like that really shouldn't make any difference in the drive-ability of the jeep?i was gonna posi-lock mine figuring i don't even have vacuum hoses on mine... but if i can just manually lock it and keep it locked, i dont see why i wouldnt just do that

Ok there are two things here. The vacuum disconnect on your axle acts like locking hubs. It isn't a locker you still have an open diff. When you engage the disco or lock hubs if you have em it will still only spin one tire. The reason I would like locking hubs is so that I could run a locker or a spool with no ill effects on the street.

Unless your welding the front having a locker shouldn't effect street driving. Even with factory hubs.
its only when power is applied that they lock, unless you have selectable lockers

So having it in 2wd should be enough to keep the stress issues at bay.
