Can I use a dana 27 with my steering setup? If so I'm so stealing this one off craigslist for 95 bucks

 

Dana 27 was an axle used in early CJs so I'm not sure what you're asking as far as steering it was quite different than what you have now and narrower.

 

if its from an early CJ it wont be wide enough for an XJ anyways

 

And passenger side drop, and a 5x5.5 wheel pattern.

Its still a passenger side drop, not worth all the other trouble youd have to go through to get it to work.

 

what exactly is wrong with the D30 that is currently in there?

 

How old is this Scout, 80s have a D30 and 2s have a D44 front but all are passenger drop and narrower than a cherokee. Also a D27 is going to be old and most likely have drum brakes and consided weaker than a D30. Might as well get a 10 spline flanged D44 rear to match it so you can break shafts with 31s on pavement.
