There's a good chance the shaft you have may be okay. I have done a hack and tap with a D35, an 8.25, and an 8.8 and the regular front XJ shaft worked on all of them. They were all lifted anywheres from 3-4.5". You have a little leeway with how you cut the output shaft as well. You can always go a little shorter on it and shorten the back of the hack and tap yoke up a bit as long as you keep 1.25" of spline on the output shaft.

lol thanks, ill do that. I just don't wanna get into a situation where I've got a SYE but cant find a shaft to make it drivable so I can get back down to school. That would suck. But I don't think ill have a problem finding a ZJ shaft.

Wait so I do need a ds from a 249 ZJ? Or are you saying that's the longest and I shouldn't need one that long.

If you already have a front shaft from an XJ toss in the sye and install the shaft. It should be fine with the D35. An XJ shaft is good for up to like 6" of lift so with only 3-4" it's fine with a D35. If anything you have to watch that it doesn't bottom out on full droop.

I hope your right, that would be awesome. I'll get it off the ground and see where I'm at in the slip joint, if it does bolt up.
