Default d35 to c8.25

I've looked at lots of pages about this but haven't found a solid answer.

I have a 97 XJ, 4.0, 231, d30/d35, auto, lifted 2"

I have a c8.25 from a 99 XJ, 4.0, stock lift.

I know how to swap in the axle but my question is about the driveshaft length. I hear you can use the stock d35 ds, or the front ds, or the ds from the 8.25. Which would i be best off using? and are all driveshafts direct bolt on?

I know about search too! haha, just haven't found a solid answer that pertains to what I'm looking to do. Thanks CF!!!

Do a SYE and use a stock front shaft.

Thats the best option as they expand and contract unlike the original rear shafts.

Then the overall length isn't as important. It'll bolt right up. But any of them should, its just the overall length that becomes an issue.

I too want to replace my D35 with an 8.25. Until I can afford the SYE, which driveshaft will be a direct bolt-in fit though?

You should probably use the driveshaft that was attached to the 8.25 to be sure that the slip yoke doesn't bottom out because the 8.25 pinion is longer. However, if your jeep is lifted, it might not matter.

i only have a 2" lift. i believe the guy selling me the 8.25 has the front and rear d/s also. thoughts on buying the rear d/s from the 8.25 or just buying the front d/s that he has?

You don't need a SYE for a 2 inch lift, so unless you just want to spend the money on one the front double cardon shaft will not work. If I were you I would just get the rear DS with the C/8.25 when you buy it, that way you've got the correct length shaft for sure.

Not 100% sure, but I think there is only a 1 inch difference in the rear DS length between the D/35 and the C/8.25 diffs.
