Hello XJ Masters,

I have been searching the forum about doing a swap of my D35 to an 8.25 29 spline my uncle is giving me. My only issue is what do i do with the ABS lines that are going to the D35 and what relays/fuses do i need to pull for the ABS to discount and allow me to install the 8.25? I plan on also doing a ZJ disc swap on the 8.25 so how would that effect the ABS situation? i just want to make sure i don't have to delete the lines completely or if they have somewhere to hook up too on the 8.25.

Doing an 8.25 swap with disks now. From my research I'm gonna install the 8.25 (& HP30) and just hook up the brake lines. I don't believe the ABS system will know that the axles aren't set up for ABS.

Some guys say to pull the fuse or relay but don't think it's mandatory.

If any one that has done the swap could chime it'd be great. Also Picts of fuses pulled would be great also.

It'll make your ABS light come on since the 8.25 doesn't have tone rings for ABS. You can pull the fuses and relays and even remove the bulb in the dash if you want. I'm running full width axles with all my ABS junk still there, light is on but the brakes work just fine.

When you change to a none abs axle you will lose the use of abs and the light will be on in the dash.Only way to add abs to a none abs axle is a monster headache and a lot of time and money not really worth it.To a lot of people like me abs is kinda not needed,Race cars don't use it and high end exotic cars don't use it.

Good point. Can anyone call out or attach a picture of what fuses to pull. For some reason I don't have a user manual for my 13 year old Chero...

I did the swap yesterday. Not too bad. The fuses and relays are in the relay box under the hood. My '92 had 2 relays and 2 fuses. Pulled all 4 out and that was it. I cut the lines just above the rear wheel well. I did have to use a rear driveshaft from a Cherokee with you 242 TC. Mine was 1/2" to long.

I have a 93 xj 4.0 aw4 np242 d35. Im in the process of building a d44 with disks. Will my driveshaft work, or will i need a shorter one? Im stock height.

I think your stock shaft will work. The reason i needed the shorter shaft was that the pinion on an 8.25 is longer than the D35 or the D44. I suggest doing the swap on a Sat though if its your daily driver. I did mine on Sun and i lucked out with having the shaft i needed on hand.

D44 and C8.25 pinions are about the same size. If you swap from a D35 to anything you will need a new drive shaft, unless you are lifting enough to make up the difference (not sure how much that would be)
