Default D30 locker sounds horrible

I have a Spartan locker in my front Dana 30. I did not install the shims as it says not to. Issue is it sounds horrible when turning. Or at least it sure sounds like the locker. Anybody else found this with the spartans? Or know why it sounds so bad

Hopefully the video works

I heard about this. With Aussie as well. On my YJ, when I did it. I was told to run thicker oil. 140W. I did. The 3yrs I had it, quiet as a mouse.

I also found a thread on jeepforum of people having the same issues. Seems like thicker oil and more break time may be all it is.

My front spartan doesn't make noise. I'm running like 90w140 or something, full synthetic.

I bought it new. I mean overall when in 4wd it works god but when in 2wd it's sounds and drives like ****. I'm going to try 85w 140 gear oil. If that doesn't work then it's coming out.

I never had this problem , but try the thicker weight and give it a little break in time. When new those teeth have a fine machined edge. let it get a little mileage on it. Go drive in circles in a parking lot for a few hours lol.

So I changed the oil to 75w140 and figured for ****s and giggles throw in some extra additive. It's almost un heard when making a right hand turn now. No clunks or anything. Still making noise turning left, not as bad as it was though. SO seems like i'm on the right path anyway. I'll give it a few miles now and see how it goes.
