Cowl intake + cold air
So If I went and bought the K&N Intake, would it be pointless if I put it inside the cowl? Would that defeat the performance aspect of it? Also if it would, I'm thinking about making it like a screw on (water tight of course) cap so I can just attach it while I'm wheeling... what do you guys think?

Yeah putting iit in the cowl would prob help. Honestly you didn't need to buy a k&n I built my own out of some PVC and a cone air filter I got at auto zone and it works great. You could prob build a custom one to fit into that cowl and pull in the most cold air.

Sigh... Ok let me try again.. I think you had it right the first time. I want a cowl hood intake for when I go wheeling. I was thinking about making it so when I get out there, I could just unhook my filter and rotate the hose to fit on the cowl hood intake and ta-da! I would have a fake snorkel! But if it was more beneficial (performance-wise) to just leave it in the cowl hood, But I was thinking that would restrict air flow.
I'm making this more complicated than it should be lol
Edit: Just to clarify, I mean the place behind the fire wall.

I think he means the space between the engine bay and passenger compartment. And no, that will not hurt performance. I recently saw a setup that is exactly what you're looking for. Includes filter equivalent to K&N.

Ok just make a cowl intake and use it 24/7. Check out the write up section. Dukie564 is running a cowl intake and there's no restriction.of air. Just in the winter move snow from cowl holes and there's enough space that when done right water won't get sucked in
