I have one of the Spectre ones and I am getting ready to take it out. Offroad and around town it is not that bad, but if you hit any highway at all (which I do frequently) it is definitely not conducive to any type of normal conversation.

It might be up for sale here, but I am going to check with some folks in my local 4 wheeling club first.

Going back to the stock airbox with a snorkel with a donaldson cyclonic pre-cleaner. Don't really need it, but I think that it looks cool.

 

wow ok.. yea mine has to go back and forth to work in bad weather. 80 mile round trip all highway.. won't be getting one of those..

wonder if keeping the stock air box and filter and just piping a tube to the cowl would be any better..

 

Just my .02 cents worth, but I don't think you would enjoy it.

 

There should be a difference since you'd be drawing air from the other side of the cowl directly under a opening. Part of the noise with the setups like the Spectre and THOR is from the air intake being right above the HVAC intake, and turbulence as it has to pull air over the wiper motor.

Not sure it it will be enough of a difference but it is a different path.

 

yea i'm kinda afraid to hack into my cowl only to have it annoying as hell to drive. really didn't want to hack the fender for a snorkel either and the stock air box is so low and brings air in front he front like it does..

 

Well if you go the DIY route like in dukie464's writeup, you can always just patch the holes again with some sheet metal.

yea i hear ya.. hate hack a hole in it and cover it back up with a piece of sheet metal.. kinda make it look half assed to me..

I guess it depends on your style, wouldn't bother me much under the hood! Anyhoo see the thread I linked above, a bunch of people have done this modification and I'm sure would be willing to provide some feedback on the noise level to you. Dukie's still around here somewhere

Because of the noise concerns, I've decided that if I ever felt the need to draw cooler air and/or raise the intake that I'd have my hood converted to a cowl induction hood with a homemade intake to draw air there. Same height, same temp, no intrusive cabin noise. More expensive, though.
