To run a 33/12.50/17 what kind of backspacing for a 17x9 wheel?

Most people run 3.75 or 4" Backspacing I personally run 3.75

Are there any advantages of staying with a 17" wheel vs going down to a 15" wheel? Jeep came with a 4.5" lift and 17" wheels and been thinking about possibly going down in size.

Cheaper tires in sizes like 33 and 31 they are more readily available. But 15's are starting to get phased out
