Purple ice
I am also having the same problem now that I stuck a trans cooler on my Cherokee , BUT I do have a Alum 2 core ( 1in cores ) and new head as well as water pump ( using Toyota Red Antifreeze ) and hoses and belts and usually ran 190 all day long with or without the AC on , but goes up to 215 when crawling now with the cooler ( stock aux ) . Sounds like the Royal purple just might work ( I personally hate Vents in the hood )
My xj never puked coolant it just creeped up I put new hoses water pump T stat electric fan and fluid still run around 225 or so after purple ice it stays right on 215 I added 2 bottles around a month ago I'm curious to c if it will continue to work and for how long and My electric fan is stock and on a toggle switch only use when runs warm

I'm going to try to go to a wrecking yard this weekend to see if I can find a better fan for my XJ . I will let you all know what happens .

Other poster posted code for lean condition when hot..........OEM thread.
People need to look at lean for a cause of high temps.

Gets hot in traffic. If it were at WOT or something, I could buy the lean thing. Not in this case. I've done testing with fuel pressures, boost and O2 sensor readings. No load is not an issue.

I was talking to a couple of Jeep Gurus that live close to me and they both told me to get a High Performance Thermostat !!!! Preferably a three hole Thermostat and so I went to Summit Racing and figured that they cant be too much so I bought a 180 degree Part # EMP-301 and a 160 deghree part # EMP-300 and figured I would put the 160 in and Man what a difference !!!!!!! Back to running 190 ( mark just before center line on LEFT side of guage !!!!! )

I did this, but I got tired of the power loss and the fact it sounded like I had a damn jet engine under my hood above 2400 rpm. So I put the old oem clutch back on, I run a couple degrees hotter but it's better than listening to a high pitched hum on the highway.

The 195 thermostat put me WAYYYYYY over 210 or 215 . The EMP 300 thermostat ( 160 degree 3 hole ) is working perfectly and my temp DOESNT get any hotter then 200 with the AC on and standing still for 37 minutes .

It's a band aid. If you live where it gets 50 or below in winter your engine will run too cold. If your engine was getting to 220 or even 230 with the AC on moving slowly or idling in hot ambient temperatures it's fine. XJs run hot, that's a fact you can't change. Even with the thermostat opening that early it will still eventually work its way up.
