I have a 99 XJ
3" rc series 2 full leaf pack kit.
31" toyo AT 2 Tires
15" wheels.
What can I do to improve the steering/ control. After the lift I'm afraid to take it over 70mph

I can comfortably take my 93 far beyond that on the interstate for miles at a time. Handles smooth as glass.
Does it wander? Vibe? What's it doing?
Something is either worn out or not aligned correctly.

Replace your tie-rod ends, ball joints, tighten the worm gear in your steering box (only a little) and then get an alignment.

first - get tires balanced and an alignment
second - sit in front of the truck and have a buddy shift the steering wheel left and right - you're looking for any movement in the steering/suspension joints, particularly at the trackbar.
Let us know what you find.

The problem is mostly loose on the corners, tends to drift significantly more turning. Hard to keep in the lines. And even going straight after 70 it will drift left-right, but not vibrate.
The axle joints were replaced a few months ago. And an alignment was done after the lift ... Twice

Do what Dukie said and look for any worn joints. Look for play anywhere.

did you do any sort of alignment after the lift? Sounds like your toe is way off, and possibly the castor also.

Shops rarely adjust the castor correctly. On a Jeep they set the toe and if you're lucky they straighten the steering wheel. They charge way too much to turn 2 bolts and a adjustment sleeve. I do the same thing for free in my yard with a tape measure. Then go out and drive 80 down the interstate...
I'd check it myself.

Are you driving without your front swaybar hooked up, I did and it was scary on the interstate. I've got a ton of play in my steering wheel too, gotta keep correcting while driving. I think my caster is off & my ball joints are shot. I've got all the parts to replace them, but they are on my new axles (not under my truck).

How do you tighten the worm gear in an xj steering box. I have about 1/4" of slop in my steering wheel and I've checked all my suspension parts repeatedly, thinkin it's in the box itself

watch the sector shaft when you check the steering - you don't want any lateral movement (side to side or up and down)
