Basically, unsprung weight is everything below the suspension (axles, wheels, tires, etc) hence the term "unsprung". Increasing the weight of the wheels/tires will decrease the handling capabilities of your vehicle. (I think that is pretty much what was trying to be said, hah)
How would a jeep handle differently with 33x12.5x15 vs. 33x12.5x17? In other words, if all other things are equal, what would the 15" rim vs 17" rim do to the ride?
It seems that a 33" tire on a 15" rim might have a softer ride / not handle at highway speeds quite as well since it would have 2" more sidewall / 2" less rim; whereas a 33" tire on a 17" rim would have 2" more rim / 2" less sidewall.
So, would the highway handling be affected? Off road handling affected? Highway noise?

The subtle differences your talking about are going to be nearly impossible to notice.
33's are a lot more $$ then 31's in either a 15 or 17.
And don't forget about the re-gearing to turn those big boys and the gas factor.
Personally I'd stick to 15's w/3.5 bs and 31's only bc I'm not hardcore, I'm a mall crawler, and proud btw.
