Ok just so everyone knows the rig pictured above is NOT mine. I like his comp cut but it may be a little too much for my purpose considering it's my DD. Was mainly wondering if anyone has the comp cut, still drives it on the street, and what "removable" parts you've added to keep the police off y'all behinds?
This is my baby "Clotile"!!!

See if CA has a inspection manual online.
Before I moved to utah I went through the utah one.
In utah the law has frame height and head light height. Unless you are obviously above it no one hassles you for it.
utah fender flares and mud flaps are huge, flares are supposed to go around the top 50% of the wheel, (9 o'clock to 3 o'clock) and cover the whole tread, most modified vehicles don't have this. So technically a comp cut is not legal in utah, but I see plenty of them running around.
a lot of guys build removable mud flaps and or flares.
in utah usually the inspector will be ok so long as you have made an effort with the mud flaps although they seem to be getting more strict around here lately.
Something that has come up here a lot lately is that the law says that bumpers must be 4.5 inches tall. A lot of people build bumpers out of 4 inch square tube, no one used to ever get hassled about that, but lately people have been failing inspection for that.
The way I see it get the rule book, know how close you are go in see what they do.

-99 I just passed inspection stock and am throwing one tons under it soon...

Thanks Nathan! That's probably what I'll do. I found a thread with a bunch of California laws on here but it was an old thread so I don't know how accurate they are. I'll dig around. The mud flaps I can make removable and I'd like to do tube flares eventually anyway. May just have to do em sooner.
Pretty much decided that because she won't be a trailer queen for a LONG time if ever then I'm not gonna do a full comp cut. Just gonna open the back of the well so I can stretch if when I throw the tons under there.

Hit the CA DMV website. Everything you need to know about bringing your Jeep here is on the site. If it isn't call the DMV and they'll be happy to help on the phone.
Side markers are required for safety. With the amount of people on the roads in CA the police have to be more strict about enforcement.

lol well i only go up there a couple times through out the year..so i dont really experience all the weather lol
Depending on how much and which end of your rig you stretch you will have to relocate your g-tank.. and if you run a fuel cell you might run into a few issues with the visual inspection for emmmisions
