When I mentioned taking it to a shop. I meant taking it to my buddy(might as well pay for him to make the time this go around) where he can go through it with a multi-meter. He likes that kinda crap. Personally I hate electrical issues. It's enjoyable for him as its hard. I'll let him know now to skip the clockspring and try to find a short elsewhere.

Was just reading on jeep forum and came across the topic of a faulty crankcase position sensor(cps) being a culprit of dead gauges. Although another accompanying symptom is usually a no start, which I don't have. I read if the cps is bad and I unplug it my volt and fuel gauges should gone back alive. Along with other test with a voltmeter. When the rain stops I'm going to try pulling the cps to see if my fuel and volt gauge work again. May this be the problem?

Thoughts?

Check the airbag fuse located in the passenger kick panel.

#26, I believe.Second from the bottom on the right hand side.I remove this fuse when offroading so I don't get any suprises.
Next thing I'd check is the airbag "brain".It's under the seat or console,I think.Find a buddy with a XJ & swap it out or get one from a yard & see if it fixes it.

If you remove your CPS you need to replace it with another one for it to run,so you can check your guages. But,you knew that.
