Has anyone seen a CJ or Grand Wagoneer air filter on an XJ? I tried looking up pictures but couldn't find any. This makes me believe it hasn't been done, or no one has taken pictures of it before.
I know older vehicles used to run low profile 360 circle filters like the old Chevy 350 straight off the throttle body. I understand the benefits of having a designated air filter box. But has anyone seen one like this on an XJ?
The reason I am asking is because I would like to run a dual battery setup on my XJ, but don't want to run a filter to the cowl vent, snorkel, or put the battery in the back.
Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system
Those were oil bath filters with an element that resembled very coarse steel wool. Effective, but messy and yes it could be done if you like taking in hot air

Thank you! I yount know. That definitely helps me make a decision
The tealy old ones were oil bath but the newer ones from atleast the 70-early 90s ford chevy and dodge ran them ive never been around old jeeps but id assume them..
These were anchored to the carb or throttle body with a center bolt
This a crappy after market one on my 76 f150
I think id get rid of the filter box and plumb a cone filter anywhere out of your way. Could weld tge tube yourself or by present sections and clamp them together.
I see no difference from cold to hot intake air my jeep breaths hot under hood air so does my cummins that makes a ton more power than my jeep. Neither negatively affected

I agree with the air temperature statement. As in therea no such thing as a cold air intake if its not done correctly. At the point its a engine air intake.
I want to something like this and reroute the intake tube over to the passenger side of the engine bay and make brackets to mount the filter right obove the valve cover.
This would give me room on the driver side for a dual battery, and help with the intake temperature
