Hi.
I am planning on installing an automatic locker in my 8.25 but have a few questions.
I currently have the 27 spline exles and plan on putting in some 29 spline. I know if i go 29 spline i will have to change carriers but since i will put a locker on would I still need to change carrier o would I need to buy something else.
I also plan on installing a front locker on my Dana 30 but I am concerned if that would affect my daily driving as long as i am on 2wd. How different would it be if i just install an air locker on the front axle? There is no snow where I live.
Would really appreciate all Information.
Thanks

Yes will still need to change the carrier as the axles will not fit the 29 spline are larger.
You will need a 29 spline carrier and locker for the rear. For the front I have a Spartan in my Dana 30 and it is unnoticeable when in 2wd, and it works great in 4x4.

If you get a full case locker like a detroit that will take care of the carrier at the same time. If you are just wanting to put a lunchbox in I would just stick with the 27 spline axles since going to a 29 spline stock carrier, having it setup and putting in a lunchbox are going to be expensive in it's own right probably just as much or there abouts as a full case locker.
The 242 will still allow a speed difference front to rear but obviously a locker up front wouldn't be as desirable but the full time setting would still be usable. Maybe a Detroit Trutrac? It's gear driven and should have good street manners and good off pavement manners as well and still allow normal street usage of the 242 without any weird handling quirks.

I had an np242 with the front locker and it worked fine in 2wd, in full time it would make the steering wheel pull to one side coming out of a turn, but it wasn't and issue for me because I never used full time anyway.
