Question Choosing A Winch:

So ive narrowed it down & while id love a Warn, its just too expensive!! Smittybuilt seems the way to go due to the cost factor & ive been hearing more & more positives on them. Now my only delema is which one?

1) This has a 10,000 pull, 5.5hp, & the big advantage of the synthetic rope for $524:

2) This powerhouse has a 12,000 pull, 6.6hp, a gear ratio of 265:1 & a price tag under $499:

3) This one has a 10,000 pull, 5.5hp, 150psi air comp, & a slightly less pull speed. BUT the on-board air is hard to resist at $552:

Opinions & advice needed!!
Thanks,

They say you want at least double the pulling power of the weight of your vehicle I run a 10000lb winch on my xj. Steel cable works but if you can swing the extra cash synthetic rope is by far the way to go. IMO

I've got a warn 9000 I got off a forum... was on a warn f250 brushguard and all of it was $600... I don't own a Ford so I pulled the winch off and sold the brushguard for $300... so i paid $300 for a warn 9000xi or something like that... heck its been in my shed a year cause im still building but couldn't pass it up... just keep your eyes open for stuff like that... may not be a deal that makes sense... but if u make it make sense you'll save alot of money...

I don't even own a Ford... lol

You can get a Warn m8000 for around $550 right now I believe. That's what I have.

DITTO!! Altho i did read one review where they had troubles with the plumbing of the air compressor!! Will have to research this model well cauz thats a hell of a deal at $542 bucks but not if it craps out on ya!! If not then the Smitty 10,000 with the synthetic rope for $524 is my next choice!!

They have a few bumpers on ebay that seem to be built well & sell for 3 to $400. For me, i love the look of the grill guard u commonly see on pickups alike that wraps around & im thinkin i can cut the top off of mine & weld/bolt it to the new winch bumper somehow.

After my Superwinch crapped out on me. I searched around for a budget minded winch. After passing on the Smittybilt I ended up going with a Moto Alliance winch. They were doing a giveaway on jeepforum and it really caught my eye.

Their store:

Sometimes their eBay prices are better than their store prices.
For the stuff you get with it, it was hands down the best price I came I across.
I have had it for quiet a few months now and have had no issues out of it at all.
The wireless remote that comes with it has been AWESOME.
Diff. check em out. I know they are kinda new to vehicle recovery winch's but they have been in the ATV game for quiet sometime.

The best deal I've seen is the Rough Country winches. If you don't do a lot of mudding a synthetic winch rope is the way to go, but if you spend all your time in the mud get steel wire rope, but I would go with the 5/16ths not 3/8ths rope, the 3/8ths is just to heavy for the Cherokee. With a light weight rig like the Cherokee anything over 9500 lbs is to much, the Cherokee only weighs maybe 4000 lbs when ready for the trail.
