Any tips on getting the centering pins to line-up appreciated; I had the darn floor jack drop the rear axle while installing ystrdy; got it back up and mounted and jacked into place after leafs were connected and I cant align the darn centering pins for that last little bit of getting them into the leafpack holes! arg....gotta get front done by morning and only this is preventing my moving forward....
I've used a combination of jacks and ratchet straps from the other side but its always a struggle. Seems like its always a 1/16" from going in and just won't.
Oops. I guess I read that wrong. I was thinking he was having trouble getting the center pin in the spring perch hole. Thats always been my problem with leaf installs.
Yeah, a screwdriver, punch anything like that will work. C clamp helps too hold them together also.
Thanks for all your suggestions; it was the axle not being pulled close enough and once I begn th eU-Bolt tightening , it pulled them in and , as you guys said, a BFH whack got 'em seated. Thanks!
Oh- so, I am getting mixed info on the use of the rear Sway Bar ( yes, I know we can make BPEs out of the old leaf-plate mount) ; I thought it weird to leave off but I did leave the swaybar off of the 3" Rusty's leafpacks and wonder what you guys do; just don't run them? leave them on? This si a 95% ON road( boring) wife XJ that handling is more important. Ya think it will make a difference ? She is driving first time today after I got the thing done for past 3 days. Wanna know something funny? This XJ is a '95 with 387,000 original miles and not one bolt or welded nut broke during a full suspension lift to 3" . wow, right?
Info on your 3" leafpack swaybar opinions welcomed. She said it felt "sproingy" and I replied ," you were riding on partial bumpstops before. welcome to having actual springs under your Jeep, honey!..."
So I was reading that right. I've fought those darn things back and forth for quite a while before they pop in. Even with the straps, jacks and BFHs. I guess they just don't like me. Glad it all went together for you.
I still have the rear swaybar connected with 4.5" lift springs. Bolted right back in place. Probably killing my articulation a bit but I always ran it on the TJ (2.5' lift) too without trouble.
I did pull the rear on my Xterra when I lifted it and honesty couldn't tell the difference. The front one was a different story. Drove it about a half mile, turned around and put it right back on. IFS is a different animal. Dove so hard into the turns it was like a jacked up Oldsmobile.
yes, regardless of IFS or straight axle, I'm gonna have some serious body roll on traveling around town or to the trails if I don't have a front sway bar...but the leaf packs sorta keep the axle centered in rear , or so I've been led to believe ...since the one I have been building is a Urban Pot Hole Fighter , I was just wondering how the rest of you guys were dealing without-or-with the oem plate mounted SBs...thanks for input.
Rough Country has some great lifts for the money, too. I've heard some complaints about their older kits, but whatever the issues were, they seem to have eliminated them. I just installed their 3" Series 2 lift on my '96 with full leaf packs. I installed their adjustable trackbar at the same time. Everything fit great and I got about 3.5" of lift from it. Once I added a TC drop, there's no vibration and it drives nice and straight.
Order direct from Rough Country if you go with them. Excellent customer service and reasonable shipping.
