MY 89 Cherokee 4.0 auto needs a rebuild but I don,t like all the computer stuff,just wondering if anyone has changed to a nice simple carb setup.I know the fuel has to go but not sure what to do with the tranny

 

I apologize but in my opinion what you want to do is pointless and if you have to ask what to do then you really probably shouldn't do it. It'll be a big headache for you.

To be honest EFI doesn't get a whole lot simpler than the renix system that's on your jeep.

That being said, if you want to rip it all of I do believe that the transmission controller is stand alone so it should be ok without the efi computer.

I'm positive someone who knows the TCU system in your jeep will chime in with good information.

You will also need to do something for spark, ECU controls it, no ECU no spark.
Will need to use another distributor, I'm currently running a GM HEI style on my 89 LPG XJ

 

dont open that can of worms, fix the efi
