CB Radio Wiring - Battery/Cigarette Lighter
You can splice the wires in to the cig lighter leads. Solder them and then wrap them up. If you plug anything in to the cig lighter while your CB is running, you might pop a fuse if you try to draw too much current.

Yeah. You may as well get a cig lighter plug for your cb and solder that on to your leads and just plug it in to the lighter then. This is what I did.

Okay. But if I were to do it by splicing, would you recommend the "leave the one pair of wires closest to the cig lighter plug not attached to anything because I don't plan on plugging anything in if my CB is already using that power" method?

Try and run it straight off the battery to avoid any auto electrical interference. As far as getting power from a Cobra 29 if someone has gotten in there and made major mods including the "finals" you could get 50 watts out of one. But that is if it was worked on by someone who realy knows his chit. And as far as all those FCC rules and regulations.. At this time the FCC has NO ONE on it's payroll who is actively making any attempt to monitor or enforce CB radio operation compliance. They will only respond to a specific citizen complaint (If you are lucky enough to weave your way thru the maze of redtape and find someone at the FCC who even cares enough to respond to said complaint)

It's my personal preference to not cut the factory harness/wiring. If you do cut it, solder it and insulate it real well. If you want to plug in your phone and your GPS in at the same time, you won't be able to because you'll lose that outlet's functionality. If you just splice the CB into that circuit, check the current draw of the CB and of whatever else you'll be plugging in to make sure it doesn't exceed that of the fuse on that circuit. Remember, when you first plug in or turn on devices, the current draw peaks out and then settles back down.

and while I'm there, to save on shipping, I've been wanting to get a PA Speaker -- the site recommends at least 15 watt to hear over engine noise. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/cb...stic-base.html - could I still wire into cigarette lighter with the PA speaker?

Here's a pic of what I'm trying to describe for my splicing method.
Could I just connect the top two pairs and leave the bottom pair hanging by itself? Would that supply power and ground properly?

If you're wanting the best, which I assume you are, run the wires to the battery. Directly to the terminals or you will, and I mean WILL have interference from the engine.

idk if you are still looking for ideas or also if your wires are long enough. But, heres what I did with mine and I have had no problems with it for the last 4 years since I bought it. keeps the cig lighter free for other uses and will run with the jeep on or off.

only thing you will need to have are some flat connecters that will slide right into the fuse connectors right at the fuse block under the dash on the driver side. you can pick up your ground and power directly from there. The connectors look like this.
