CB Problem
Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right spot for this, didn't see anything for electronics and it's a "mod," so we'll try.
So I transferred my Uniden CB over from one truck to my Jeep (98XJ), got it all wired up, but am having some funky problems.
So I got my antenna mounted up top, ran the wire into the cab and screwed everything in tight to my CB receiver. Now my radio is powered by a 12v chord that plugs into the 12v out, so I plugged it all up, get power, but don't get any incoming signal it seems.
If I click over to my weather channel (I get 7), I hear nothing. It should broadcast 24/7, but I get nothing.
Click back over to CB, and the channel pops up (popular is 19 here), and I still get nothing. If I hold the PTT button on the side of the mic, I get a reading on the gauge to the left, but that's it.
Any ideas here?
Thanks,
JJ

is it an adjustable/tuneable antenna? maybe see if you can find someone with a meter and tune it in. might be too short/too long

I do not believe so. Looks pretty basic, slap it on, plug it in. It worked just fine on the previous truck, which is what's got me all puzzled.

I need to look in the daylight and examine the cable. I don't get to see my Jeep in the light often. And I've opened the squelch up as well as RF gain to try and pick up something, even static...but nothing.

are you running an external speaker? if not could the internal speaker be bad? is it totally quiet, like nothing--dead?

Do you have an external swr meter? If not, you will NEED one to properly tune your antenna. Get this done and that should clean up your receiving signal. I wouldn't transmit if I was you until you get the antenna tuned

And you'll want to turn the squelch all the way off.
Double check your wiring. Make sure everything that needs to be grounded is grounded well.

Edit: Since its a magnet mount you won't be able to really tune it. You'll have to move it around the roof to find the best spot. Typically the center is the best spot but towards the rear could be better.

get a speaker or headphones and plug it in to the external speaker jack and see if you have anything there. sounds like your internal speaker is not working.
