I've also got some of those links I refered to when installing my cb haha. I'm no expert but I've done my fair share of research. You can also go to www.cbradioforum.com for some great info and advice.

My previous post was directed at the OP. What is the best match that you have been able to get so far?

Right now I'm at about 1.5:1 average on all channels

That's good, that means that you most likely have the antenna mount correct and don't have a coax problem. I would say it's most likely a ground problem like dogger15 posted in the first response. If your grounds are all good, and you still can't tune the antenna all the way, it's most likely a reflect problem.

I was just going back through all of the posts, and I saw you have an oil-filled coil. Is that coil at the bottom of the antenna? Also, is the mount directly behind the cab of the truck? If yes to both of those questions, then that is almost definitely the problem. With the coil mounted behind the cab, you will get alot of reflected energy from the metal of the truck. I always recommend against mounting antennas in that location for that reason. If you really have to have it there, you're better off getting a 5 or even 6 foot fiberglass antenna with the loading coil at the top like the Wilson Silver load. That will get the coil of the antenna above the roof of the cab and help bring the match down.

X2. You want the top 2/3 of fiberglass antennas above the roof line.
