Did you tune the antennas? Also how are your grounds?

What kind of antenna mount are you using? You wouldn't believe how many times I've seen people get the mounts that use the 3 piece stud mount assembly with the white plastic washer in the wrong place. The white washer needs to be on top of the surface, not below it. It is a spacer that keeps the transmitting part of the antenna from connecting to the bracket(or body), the grounded portion of the antenna mount.

Does your radio have a built in SWR meter? If not, do you have an external SWR meter?

Its a mirror mount with 4 bolts but I put it on the bed of my truck I have a Trc499 and a oil coil 4 foot whip

Sounds like you just need to hook a swr meter to it and adjust your antenna height.

I wouldn't suggest to anyone to open up their cb radio and start tinkering with things, with or without an instructional video.

But you def need to get an swr meter and tune your antenna. You also need to check and clean all...ALL your grounding points in the jeep. Its also VERY important that your antenna bracket (NOT THE ANTENNA) is grounded well. Once all of this is said and done come back and let us know if there are any other problems.

caged 04-09-2012 09:12 AM

also you need to have at least 1/3 of your antenna above the roof line.
