Lightbulb Can i do this?

I have a 1981 ford Bronco that i had bought for the engine, that i used to put in my mustang. I was going to junk it to day wen i got home from work, but then i heard from a friend that it might be possible to take the axles off the Bronco and put them on my 91 jeep cherokee. I dont know what type of axes are on the Bronco if any body could help with some info I would realy appreciate it thanks,

Well my question is it possible and would it be worth it?

you can make any axle work under your XJ but the axles might need to be modified to work like moving the leaf spring perchs to match the jeep and the shock mounts and the same for the front by moving the coil spring perchs to match the jeep but i think there are some axles the will just swap over with little to no mods but im not 100% sure on that

If the bronco's axles are a Dana 44 and 9 inch then i'd say so. Just as long as they're in good shape and your willing to do the work.

if i remember correct the front axle under the bronco should be and independent suspension. Ford got rid of the solid axle after 79 in the 1/2 tons. i dont know if that can still be swapped or not, but its something to look at.

1980 and up had the TTB front d44 in the bronco, and possibly the 8.8 or 9 inch rear.
the rear will work with little fabrication, but you don't want the front under your xj. a front d44 from a 78 or 79 bronco is more desirable.

i wouldn't worry about shortening the axles, the wider the better for off camber and offroading. plus it just adds to the cost.

i'd sell what you have left and buy a pair of axles from an early bronco and fab up some mounts to put them under your jeep. they are narrower than the full sized broncos also.
