looking to do a cam swap. what a good cam for dd and wheeling? its a 89 xj renix with 4.10 gears.

I had the Comp # 68-115-4 in my last XJ (was not a renix). More power all around and better gas mileage. You will need to do valve springs with it. The stock ones started floating around 4000 rpms. Completely changes the sound of the engine too. I will be going with a slightly bigger one this time around. Looking at the Comp # 68-232-4.

Ok awesome any one with a renix I think I'm pulling the motor for a rebuild no stroker just wanna do a nice cam

The same cam profile that came in it for a stock engine, millions of dollars were spent on designing the 4.0 engine a great one at that. With the stock cam good parts the engine will run 300,000 mi. if properly cared for why change it?

that's the cam comp suggest for a dd and wheeling rig low to mid range cam but since my jeep is a 89 I need diff springs and they don't sell them for my jeep. any suggestions? they said mopar performance but not exactly what model number

For valve springs, basic GM LT1 350 springs work. They're what I use in my stroker builds. Majority of the Renix components are mix-matched GM or Ford style stuff. AMC: All Makes Car.

i dd the jeep and wheel it but my main main go to vehicle is my pick up so gas milage who cares not me lol i want the little both the low to mid power. when i called comp they said i could use the springs that come with the cam but due to my year engine the head would have to be machined to take the valve springs. they suggested looking for valve springs that will work for my year and engine and a cam that has a 460/476 lift. they say mopar performance makes them but i can't find them. once i find the valve springs, keepers and retainers I'm good. i can order my cam from comp and use there lifters and timing chain and sprocket set. they say i can use roller rockers 1.6 np and it will run great but have to double check if pushrods will work or not. so like i said my issue is i need valve springs that will work on a 89 cherokee with a 4.0 and a cam that has a 460/476 lift.

Ok guys I'm just looking for some good valve springs to work in my year motor with that comp cam I said in the above post. No fighting please lol also who is the best place to contact about molar performance parts who knows what they r talking about?

I'll post a few options and part numbers for you later today. Majority of springs you will have to machine the seats of the head. Camshafts are not just, "Give me that one!, drop right in and spped right off." There is a good science to it. I normally design my own cam profiles and then have them custom ground per application. Spring selection can also be a challenge to most as you are seeing.

I called hesco they say they have somthing that will work but these parts guy is out. I only called them to see if they had spring that will work with the comp cam and he went on a rant how there cams are better

Hesco's parts guys is out so I called 505 performance he has a cam and springs that will work but thenlift of the cam is 500? Seems high when comp cam had one that was 476 lift. Now if I do a cam because it's so hard to find what springs will work on my 89 renix cam, comp cam says they can custom cut one to work with stock springs. Worth it or wait and see what hesco has to say or go with the 505 performance kit?
