Default cam shaft

Has anyone every ran a cam shaft that is different from factory specs with the stock EFI?
Would like to run something like a rv cam if it will work, I have done this on a sbc with a throttle body. Just wondering if anyone has tried it, I will be building a new engine in the near future.

Are you looking to build a new engine with an aftermarket cam? Or looking to swap an aftermarket cam into your current engine then rebuild it later on?

Have any idea what the specs are on the one in the 99? I would like to have something that helps make more low end torque, I even want to go with a aluminium head from edelbrock, they claim its rated to make more hp and torque just bolting it on. I read what the gains are but I forgot, they a pricey about 1100 bucks.

That's the specs for the one in my 99. The one in my Comanche was recommend by 5-speed and I believe he said he used it in his 99. It's a SK68-115-4 from comp cams.

I dont know whether its any use to you, but the stock pre-97 cams have peak torque at 3000RPM, and I believe some earlier XJ had peak torque at 2500

Please don’t call and ask comp cams for a RV cam they’ll probably hang up on you lol

I used that one in my 98 but same difference. Gained gas mileage and power. Couldnt complain.

I have heard of this aluminum head from Edelbrock and how pricey it is. I know you will get more hp and lose some weight as well. Other than those, anymore advantages?

They claim dont hold me to these numbers been a little while since reading it, 20hp and like 30ft lbs of torque just by installing it. Its suppose to flow better with that beeing said, a engine is like a air pump the more air you can get in and out the more power it will make. If you going to be doing other things like a hotter cam, header better flowing exhaust, or maybe a stroker bottom end you could see way more than this. I think it would just be a good platform to build from.

I just wish they weren't so dang expensive. I think they were around $1500 when I looked last and that's what I spent on all the parts to build a stroker. I guess if you have a bad head and need a new one you're looking at $500 so $1500 isn't as bad in comparison, but still a lot of money for me to swing right now.
