Looking at the design of the 4.0 and looking at what's cold air intakes are available on the net why do the designs look not efficient. The idea of a cold air intake is to not get hot air, right. Cold air or cool air is the goal in my eyes. Now a lot of the cost effective ones $40 and under with a little modification can work, but is it worth it ?? . Has anyone tried the summit racing cold air intake? Summit Racing Part Number: SPE-9948 Looks cool! Just wondering.

I have been running a spectre cowl intake for about a year now, sound is loud but I got over that. Cold days it helps out a ton, warm days I can't say it does much. It's been holding up great so far. I do get a fair amount of small particles of dirt in the tube BEFORE the filter, but none after the filter or on the backside. And I wiped my throttle body clean before the install and it's still clean a year later, no water problems either. I'd say it was a good 150 investment as well as a conversation piece. I paired it with a flowmaster 40 muffler and 2.5" tailpipe and got a little more power out of the butt dyno and better accel. Don't expect tire burning power because it won't happen. Let me know if you need any more info il be glad to help

Really though a stock XJ can only take in so much air. If you get a larger/bored TB you might actually need a CAI otherwise it wont do much performance wise for you. If you plan on getting it wet, a cowl or snorkel is a good idea.
