Has anyone put together a thread regarding bumpers? There are many out there and I would love to see pictures and reviews from actual users. I've seen bumpers that look cool and rugged but in actuality they cannot be used for pulling, recovery and/or they break.
In my area hitting a deer or elk on the highway is a harsh reality along with pulling people out of ditches during winter and obviously off road recovery. My old jeep had a rear bumper from Bulletproof MFG and now I don't even see bumpers for Jeeps on their page. I love both form and function but obviously function takes priority.
I have also had this question: I've been in the situation where my jeep is too light to recover the full sized truck stuck in the mud. If I strapped my jeep to a tree and double up my winch with ****** blocks what is the possibility of pulling a bumper off, tearing the mounts and or stretching the "frame". If pondered the thought of connecting the front and rear bumpers together with reinforcing cables to eliminate the possibility and create a direct line from winch bumper to rear bumper to tree/additional pulling vehicle.
Am I over thinking this? Has anyone seen damage from this kind of abuse?

If the bumper come with a good tie in brackets it should be ok if it does not come with a good bracket you can get tie in brackets made for bumpers to reinforce the bumper mounting I have smithy built bumpers on XJ and they do have good bumper brackets and they are heavy and strong I've pulled pretty hard using the pull points on the bumper

I've seen people hook their rigs to trees/other rigs then proceed to winch out a heavier vehicle. Always makes me think of those medieval torture racks. I wouldn't put my Jeep in that position.
