Default Winch bumpers and unibodys

So I woke up this morning and started watchin bleepinjeep which got my mine goin on the DIY bumper train. I have some ideas but the issue i'm having is. Are unibody tie ends necessary? I have never put an offroad bumpers on a jeep before. I've tried searchin the forum and can't seem to find the answear (i might just be that blind lol). Would love to see some homebrew bumpers weather front or rear as well.

Thanks in advance,
Redwolf

If you want to use the winch and keep the bumper on the jeep then yes. Some bumper companies sell dyi kits if you can weld are a good option.

Some bumpers come with the tie-ins as part of the bumper. Others only utilize the 3 stock bumper bolt locations. If you plan to winch at all, You will need the Tie-ins or the bumper with the longer frame mounts. If you have any fab skills at all, and access to a torch and drill press, you can make your own for much cheaper than they sell for.

The two posts above mine nailed it, but I agree that they are necessary for any type of winching or recovery.

There are quite a few companies out there that make tie in brackets if you want to build your own bumper. Dirtbound Offroad, JCR, Liquid Iron Industries, etc just to name a few.

I did a G&G kit on my zj due to limitations on $$, and it was nice quality, just tons of grinding and you need a few extra sets of hands occasionally.

They have nice tie in plates.

I tore the rear bumper off my xj from having improper tie ins & carrying a 35. The rear bumper needs to slide into the uni rail a good bit.
